Overview

Laser vision correction permanently reshapes the cornea to eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses in patients with myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Accredited centres in India, Turkey, and Thailand offer LASIK, SMILE, and advanced surface ablation using the same FDA-cleared laser platforms as Western clinics at 50–70% lower cost.

Your case is matched to a centre on the basis of clinical outcome data, not marketing. We coordinate every step — from pre-operative work-up to post-treatment follow-up — with a dedicated care coordinator.

Cost & recovery by procedure

This treatment category covers several different operations with different levels of invasiveness, recovery times, and costs. The country averages above blend all of them together — use the breakdown below for a more realistic, procedure-specific estimate.

LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis)

A femtosecond laser creates a thin hinged flap in the cornea's surface, which is folded back so an excimer laser can reshape the underlying tissue to correct the focusing error; the flap is then repositioned without stitches. It offers the fastest visual recovery of the laser options but requires a reasonably thick, healthy cornea and carries a small long-term risk of flap-related complications.

Typical recovery · 24–48 hours

Most patients notice significantly clearer vision within 24 hours and are legally fit to drive within 1–2 days, though full stabilization and night-vision quality continue improving over 1–3 months. Eye makeup, swimming, and contact sports are avoided for about 2–4 weeks, and lubricating drops are used for several weeks as mild dryness settles.

India

$1,000–$2,400 (both eyes)

Turkey

$1,800–$3,000 (both eyes)

Thailand

$2,000–$3,000 (both eyes)

SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)

A femtosecond laser carves a small lens-shaped piece of tissue (a lenticule) within the intact cornea and removes it through a small 2–4mm incision — no flap is created. Because it disturbs less corneal surface and fewer nerve fibres than LASIK, it is generally associated with less dry-eye disruption, though visual recovery is a little slower in the first week.

Typical recovery · 3–7 days

Vision is usable within a day or two but typically takes 3–7 days to feel fully stable and sharp, slightly longer than LASIK. Because there is no large flap, there is no flap-dislocation risk from eye trauma during recovery. The same general precautions apply — avoiding eye rubbing, swimming, and contact sports for 2–4 weeks — with lubricating drops used for reduced but still present post-operative dryness.

Thailand

$3,000–$4,000 (both eyes)

PRK / LASEK (Surface Ablation)

No flap is cut at all — instead the thin surface layer of cells (the epithelium) is loosened and moved aside (LASEK) or removed (PRK), the excimer laser reshapes the exposed corneal surface directly, and the epithelium regrows over the following days under a temporary bandage contact lens. Because it doesn't require cutting into deeper corneal tissue, it remains an option for thinner or borderline corneas that aren't eligible for LASIK or SMILE, at the cost of a slower, more uncomfortable initial recovery.

Typical recovery · 1–2 weeks

The first 3–5 days involve noticeable discomfort, light sensitivity, and blurred vision while the surface epithelium heals under a bandage contact lens; functional vision typically returns within 1–2 weeks, but full visual stability can take 1–3 months, longer than LASIK or SMILE. Driving is usually not advised for at least a week, and flying is generally deferred 5–7 days to protect the healing surface.

India

$800–$1,800 (both eyes)

Turkey

$1,400–$2,400 (both eyes)

Thailand

$1,600–$2,400 (both eyes)

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

Rather than reshaping the cornea, a soft, biocompatible lens (an EVO/Visian ICL) is surgically placed between the iris and the eye's natural lens through a small incision, correcting vision much like a permanent internal contact lens. It suits patients with corneas too thin or irregular for any laser option, or with very high degrees of short-sightedness beyond what laser surgery can safely correct, and — unlike laser procedures — it is removable or exchangeable if needed later.

Typical recovery · 3–5 days

Performed as a brief outpatient procedure per eye; vision is usually noticeably clear within a day and stable within 3–5 days, faster than PRK/LASEK and comparable to LASIK. Strenuous exercise, swimming, and eye makeup are avoided for around 1–2 weeks, and routine follow-up checks monitor eye pressure in the early weeks, since this is an intraocular implant rather than a surface reshaping procedure.

India

$2,400–$4,800 (both eyes)

Turkey

$3,500–$7,000 (both eyes)

Thailand

$5,000–$7,000 (both eyes)

Frequently asked questions

Suitability depends on corneal thickness, curvature, prescription stability, and pupil size. We arrange a remote review of your current spectacle prescription and medical history with a partner surgeon before you travel. A detailed corneal topography scan at the clinic on arrival confirms final candidacy. If you are not suitable for laser surgery, an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is assessed as an alternative without extra charge on the consultation.
