Overview

Highly specialised sarcoma oncology combining limb-salvage surgery, advanced radiotherapy, and targeted systemic regimens — giving patients with rare bone and soft tissue cancers access to expert multidisciplinary teams that see the case volumes needed for optimal outcomes.

Your case is matched to a centre on the basis of clinical outcome data, not marketing. We coordinate every step — from pre-operative work-up to post-treatment follow-up — with a dedicated care coordinator.

What's included

Sarcoma staging — MRI, CT chest & bone scan or PET
Multidisciplinary sarcoma board review
Surgical resection & endoprosthetic reconstruction if required
Chemotherapy administration & toxicity monitoring

Costs are indicative estimates and vary by procedure specifics, hospital, and clinical complexity. Request a personalised estimate for your specific case.

Cost & recovery by procedure

This treatment category covers several different operations with different levels of invasiveness, recovery times, and costs. The country averages above blend all of them together — use the breakdown below for a more realistic, procedure-specific estimate.

Limb-Salvage Surgery & Endoprosthetic Reconstruction

The bone tumor is removed together with a margin of healthy surrounding tissue, and the limb is reconstructed — usually with a metal endoprosthesis, but sometimes with bone graft or allograft — rather than amputating. Around 80–90% of extremity bone sarcomas can now be treated this way in experienced hands, with functional and survival outcomes equivalent to amputation.

Typical recovery · 2–3 months

Hospital stay is typically 7–14 days depending on the extent of reconstruction; wound infection, delayed healing, and implant-related complications are the main risks monitored closely afterward, with roughly 2–3 months of rehabilitation before resuming normal activity and further months before full limb function returns.

Soft Tissue Sarcoma Wide Excision

The soft tissue tumor is removed along with a wide margin of surrounding healthy tissue to minimize the risk of local recurrence, sometimes requiring skin grafting or flap reconstruction depending on the tumor's size and location. It is often combined with radiotherapy before or after surgery for larger or higher-grade tumors.

Typical recovery · 4–6 weeks

Hospital stay is typically 3–7 days, longer when reconstruction or prior radiotherapy is involved. Wound complications — infection, fluid collections, or delayed healing — affect around a third of patients, particularly with larger tumors or lower-limb locations, so close wound monitoring continues for several weeks; normal activity generally resumes by 4–6 weeks.

Sarcoma Chemotherapy (MAP / MAID regimens)

Combination intravenous chemotherapy — MAP (methotrexate, doxorubicin, cisplatin) for osteosarcoma, or MAID (mesna, doxorubicin, ifosfamide, dacarbazine) for soft tissue sarcoma — given before and/or after surgery over several cycles to shrink the tumor and treat microscopic disease elsewhere in the body.

Typical recovery · 3–5 days per cycle

Each cycle typically requires a short inpatient admission for drug infusion and hydration, with a total of 4–8 cycles spaced 3–4 weeks apart depending on the regimen and response. Low blood counts, nausea, fatigue, and infection risk (including neutropenic fever) are the main issues monitored between cycles, and growth-factor support is often used to reduce infection risk.

India

$600–$3,000 per cycle

Frequently asked questions

In experienced hands at high-volume sarcoma centres, limb salvage is achievable in over 80–90% of extremity bone sarcomas. The procedure removes the tumour along with a safe margin of surrounding tissue and reconstructs the limb using a metallic endoprosthesis or bone graft. Functional outcomes and survival rates are equivalent to amputation when performed by specialist sarcoma surgeons.
